Saturday Music Club: why I've never taken Alabama the band nor Charlie Daniels seriously

La Melle Prince:

Maggie and Terre Roche (with the Oak Ridge Boys and the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section):

Wanda Jackson:

Life after Life with Jello Biafra:

Ray Charles:

The Scruggses and the Watsons:

Red Knuckles and the Trailblazers...for some reason, uploaded while cranked up to not quite 1, much less 11. So, turn your volume back down after this one:

Hot Rize with the Punch Brothers:

Fairport Convention:

Johnny Cash:

Merle Travis:

Levon Helm and Friends on Elvis Costello's tv series:

Love it!

(But you have your Merles confused.)

That's two middle-aged moments in an hour. Time to go back to sleep. Thanks, Jerry.

La Melle Prince sounds so much like Patsy, I would have identified it as her for sure. I love those strong female voices.

Doesn't she? And yet, as I mentioned, we almost immediately lost her as a recording artist (as far as I can find), and gained Bocephus...who makes Alabama look creative and talented and Charlie Daniels sophisticated and tasteful in comparison.
