    I'm not sure I understand the point of hyper-realism, Todd. A lot of it seems to me a way of the artist showing off the ability to do this particular thing and that's about it.

    A trick.

    Technique trumping creativity.

    I think nothing new when I see a hyper-realistic painting.

    I think it's often a matter of highlighting aspects of the item/s being portrayed that are easy to overlook in photography. Interplay of light, as well...
