Valerie Allain played Mireille (the protagonist of the 1985 series), was strikingly pretty, and rarely wore a brassiere, which was only the beginning of some folks' resentment and some folks' fandom of this series, from the now-vanished Annenberg/CPB Project.

Not quite of the magnitude of the passage of Gabriel García Márquez, but nonetheless, Capretz and his brainchild have made a lasting impression...as this video suggests (in English after some badly-accented French).
