This week, in its piecemeal build, dedicated to the memory of Camilla Mason, my mother, who accompanied me to and sat through the first several minutes of some Hammer? Amicus? Tigon? British vampire film ca. 1971 to make sure it wouldn't be too disturbing, my otherwise first solo outing to the cinema, and whose last trip with me to the cinema was to see only the first fifteen minutes of The Two Towers, which she found utterly unengaging...she left my father and me to go sit in the car outside for the balance of the film, waiting for us to emerge. (We did see entire films together on a number of occasions between times, though the only three I recall us seeing together without any other family members were Airport '75, The China Syndrome and Murder By Death. Well, one out of three managed to be a bit better than competent.) Todd Mason

You go to a lot of work to post this, and get very little thanks. So, THANKS.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Richard...particularly as I know how much more focused on the literature and the also-delayed music posts you are as well. It's certainly been one of the worse months in recent history, and recent history sets a high bar.
ReplyDeleteDear Todd, sending all the very best of good thoughts. Stammi bene, Sergio
ReplyDeleteGrazie, amico...and also for reminding me to collect your entries.
ReplyDeleteTodd, my condolences on your mother's passing.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jack. I put together the second half of the list as a sort of normalcy therapy.
ReplyDeleteOur sympathies and best thoughts as you move forward, Todd.
ReplyDeleteTodd, I am so sorry to hear about your mother. Deepest sympathies.
ReplyDeleteThanks to you both, Jerry and Prashant. I must admit, it didn't occur to me that it might be seen today as irresponsible, leaving a child of six or so in a movie theater alone, as it wasn't quite in 1971...and I'm not sure she didn't just go the back row of the theater and watch over me there.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to ask when I could.
Loved hearing about your Mom checking out Hammer, Amicus, etc. pics, then waiting in the car for you and your Dad!
ReplyDeleteWell, she knew what she liked, and what she didn't like.
