"Cane Fire" by the Peter Moon Band

In the wake of the many contributing factors, at least some involving official negligence, to the fires which have ravaged Lahaina and much of the rest of Maui over the last weeks, a posting of a song, on its surface about official negligence and nonchalance about human life when, post-harvest, the sugar cane plantations would have fires to clear the stalks remaining, and concerns about polluting the air for those who lived nearby (the repeated references to "Save the children!" in the song are about quickly harvesting the hidden marijuana/pakalolo patches various people would cultivate in the standing cane fields), vs. the current situation, where former cane and pineapple plantations have been overrun by guinea grass and other vegetation which has not been adequately controlled, and helped fuel the murderous fires, while various other sorts of bad preparation led in large part to what was more than a hundred human lives lost, among the many other damages.
