George Edward Barr, January 30, 1937-April 19, 2025.

It is my sad duty to report that my friend, the fantasy and science fiction artist George Barr, died on Saturday, April 19, 2025. He was a multiple award nominee (Hugo and Locus Awards), a talented pianist, an excellent nonfiction writer (and published fiction writer). We were friends for half a century, and he will be sorely missed. (Photo from ISFDB)

I've always thought his work had an appealing energy. Sorry for your loss.

Thanks, Joachim, though I didn't know him personally, was simply another admirer of his work. I agree with your assessment...until I saw the image associated with the Facebook note, I hadn't realized he was a puppet-crafter/puppeteer as well, but it doesn't surprise me.

Steve Fahnestalk was the friend of Barr's who wrote the note reprinted above (and I might be mistaking a sculpture of another sort for a puppet in the photo, but it does look like an impressive puppet to me).
