March "Forgotten" Music: Vocal Neighborhoods: Ken Nordine, Urszula Dudziak, David Moss...and an instrumental piece by Halim El-Dabh...

I keep hoping to find a reasonably legit linkable download or video of Halim El-Dabh's fine "Leila and the Poet," but no such luck so far...but here's an instrumental piece in a similar direction...

For more of this month's "forgotten" music, please see Scott Parker's blog.

Ken Nordine, forgotten? But he was on a series of Levi's ads. I shall have to explore the others: they are indeed unknown to me.

I'm never comfortable with the "Forgotten" term, which is why I used the more equivocal "Overlooked" for the A/V thing.

Others have built sound collage out of their own voice alone, such as Bobby McFerrin and Reggie Watts, but no one better than Dudziak, I'd suggest. And she was there ahead of them, at least.

Moss had the best piece on an album put out by MIT via the LEONARDO MUSIC JOURNAL called VOCAL NEIGHBORHOODS (from which I steal the post's title), more elaborate and even funnier than this joyful bit, but I can't find that "safely" online any more than I can "Leila and the Poet"...though various ripping sites are willing to download the COLUMBIA-PRINCETON and VOCAL N albums...

Yeah, I liked "overlooked" better, too. Well, this is the good thing about this meme: always learning new things.

Bookseller and pop-culture historian Maryelizabeth (M'e) Hart saw the last AV list, but apparently has difficulty with most web pages (she still uses dial-up or something insane like that), and wondered if anyone had seen the new THE TEMPEST with Mirren...I suggested I knew one person who has...
